European Liberals gather in Rome to pledge support to Italian Liberals

eldr, Tuesday 9 March 2010 15:20 ::

Two weeks ahead of the Italian regional elections, around 150 European Liberals will convene for the ELDR Council meeting in Rome to support Italian Liberals of Italia dei Valori and Radicali Italiani.

On Saturday, just ahead of a major demonstration led by ELDR’s Italian member parties  in Rome against recent violations of the Italian electoral law by the Italian government coalition, European Liberals will discuss the freedom of information and press featuring Annemie Neyts, ELDR Party President; Leoluca Orlando, member of the Italian Parliament and Emma Bonino, Italian Senator and candidate to be President of the Lazio region.
Almost without surprise came the decision by the local authorities in Rome to decline the request for a public and joint campaign stand of the ELDR Party together with its Italian member parties in front of the Italian Parliament. However, European Liberals will assure that the liberal messages get across to the citizens.

The ELDR Council meeting on Friday will see important discussions among European Liberals on crucial topics such as the current dangers to the stability of the Eurozone and European approaches towards migration policies and the establishment of a European diplomatic service.

ELDR will keep you up to date. Stay tuned!
