
Federica Sabbati has been Secretary General of the ELDR Party since January 2007, following her appointment by the ELDR Council.
Born in Trieste, Italy, Federica came to Brussels in 1997, initially working in the European Parliament for the young European liberals (LYMEC) and the ELDR Party. In 2000, Federica joined Liberal International, expanding her experience with liberal parties worldwide, first as Programme Officer and then Secretary General. During her 5 years at Liberal International, based in London, Federica actively pursued the internationalisation of Liberal International, which saw an enlargement in non-European membership and activities that brought it to be more present in Asia, Africa and Latin America. In 2005 and 2006, Federica gained experience in the private sector working for an American multinational company before returning to European politics in 2007 as Secretary General of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party.
Federica holds a university degree in International Relations with Economics from the University of Trieste (Gorizia base), Italy, and a Master’s Degree in Russian and Post Soviet Studies from the London School of Economics. She also completed a post-graduate specialization course in Communication and Advertising at the Universita’ Cattolica of Milan, Italy.
